The rich and unique biodiversity of Galapagos has made this Archipelago a world landmark ofnature and conservation. The fact that the international press frequently reports on the Islands is not new. However, the Barcode Galapagos project has presented a new approach to conservation in Galapagos in seeking to catalogue the biodiversity of Galapagos based on the unique genetic signature of each species. Additionally, this has been done by training and employing local people who lost their job as a result of COVID-19.
